As a full-liner for life sciences applications, the KSB Group showcased its comprehensive range of pumps and valves in Nuremberg. The focus was on products for sterile and hygienic applications as well as on the associated support processes, starring the hygienic food pump series Vitachrom, Vitacast, Vitalobe and Vitaprime. All these type series have been awarded the certificates common to the industry, such as EHEDG, and their elastomer components conform to FDA standards. Thanks to the large number of design variants the pump sets are offered in, they can cover almost any pumping task in the fields of liquid or viscous food transport. The almost complete lack of dead volume, the electropolished wetted components and the use of high-grade stainless steels promote the pumps’ excellent cleaning and steaming in place (CIP/SIP) capabilities.

At the Nuremberg trade fair, KSB also presented its KSB Guard pump monitoring system. Networked vibration and temperature sensors fitted directly to the pump make availability at plant level transparent for the first time. The system ensures that changes in the operating behaviour of the machine are detected at an early stage, and maintenance work can be better planned, without having to be on site with the pump. KSB Guard is ideally suited for retrofitting. The sensor unit is attached to the bearing bracket or the drive lantern of the pump using a magnet and adhesive, and can be mounted during operation without modifications to the machine. A supplied battery unit provides self-sufficient power supply.

As a valve novelty the manufacturer exhibited its ISORIA butterfly valve series with a new liner material. It is manufactured from hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) and certified in accordance with the requirements of the European Food Contact Materials Regulation (EC) 1935/2004. This extends the range of applications for the type series, which has already been approved by the FDA (USA, Food and Drug Administration). The new liner is suitable for all food applications in which animal, vegetable or mineral oils or acidic liquids are used. It is resistant to hydrocarbons and also suitable for use in solids-laden liquids as it is very abrasion-resistant.

Further representatives of the comprehensive valve portfolio will be the SISTO diaphragm valves and HERA gate valves as well as the BOA-H type series. The exhibition also showcased an AMTRONIC valve control unit for pneumatic actuators that is particularly suited for use in brewery and beverage applications. AMTRONIC incorporates functions ranging from simple open/close control of a pneumatic valve with open/closed position signalling to control tasks which can be completed independently from a higher-level control station.
