The future of seating begins now. To coincide with the Orgatec 2012, the Dauphin HumanDesign Group (DHDG) is launching a varied range of office chairs which, thanks to their innovative features, can help to maintain motivation and performance in offices.
The successful Nike brand is a true pioneer in its field, using innovative technology to create lightweight, perfect fitting sport shoes. With their groundbreaking design, intricate construction and high-tech fibres, they promise to open up totally new possibilities for athletes.

Just as Nike is revolutionising the world of running, the designer Daniel Figueroa and the ergonomics experts from Dauphin have worked closely together to come up with various new design approaches aimed at creating chairs for today’s dynamic office workers. For example, they have carefully integrated materials made from high-tech fibres into the chair backrests, but only in specific areas. This results in a lightweight, closely-fitting, multidimensional backrest fabric which, in combination with a permanently elastic slatted frame membrane, ensures a subtly mobile, sporty feeling when sitting. This innovative backrest combination comprising a supporting plastic shell, a tensioned membrane-like slatted structure and a soft fabric ensures optimum climatic conditions when sitting and provides optimum support for the entire back. This results in an active yet relaxed posture without the typical signs of fatigue.

What is particularly striking about these customisable office chairs is the way in which their functions determine their overall styling. For example, the horizontal gaps in the backrest shell not only provide support and allow ventilation but are also an unusual design feature in their own right. Another new feature is the way in which the infinite seat-tilt adjustment feature (0° to -8°) is part of the seat rather than the mechanism. Indeed, the small dial at the rear of the seat shell is the only indication that the chair offers such a function. Despite being integrated so inconspicuously into the seat, this feature still plays a key role in ensuring a healthy seated posture.

Multiple use of modules

When developing “X-Code”, the multiple use of components was a key consideration, as was physical fitness. The ergonomics concept designed to support the back is based on a new mechanical module which can be used independently for various chair products. Flexible production and a flexible pricing structure enable customers to select anything from a simple, low-price chair to a high-specification luxury model from a single product range. This principle is aimed at meeting sustainability and environmental protection criteria.

The DHDG’s great responsibility towards its staff, fellow humans and the environment is reflected not only in this maxim but also in its commitment towards complying with all environmental laws and regulations, continuously and systematically improving the company’s environmental record and producing as little waste as possible when manufacturing its products. “X-Code” meets all of these requirements. Through careful use of materials, the backrest cover can be manufactured completely waste-free. This results in potential savings of around 30 percent compared to conventional textile production processes. Preparations for “Bifma level e3” and “Blue Angel” product certification are already being made.
