Walter Tools: Process reliability with a huge impact

Walter is introducing a new line of modular solid carbide circular interpolation milling cutters designed for slot milling. These cutters are compatible with four interchangeable head options, available in configurations with either three or six crosswise-arranged teeth. While Walter has long been a leader in larger diameter milling tools, this new modular range extends its capabilities to smaller hole diameters, spanning from 6.7 mm to 39.7 mm. These specialized tools excel in slot milling, chamfering, and grooving applications (such as circlip grooves per DIN 472) across a variety of materials. They offer high flexibility for use with steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, materials with challenging cutting properties, cast iron, and aluminum. The versatility of these milling cutters is further enhanced by the ability to pair the four exchangeable heads with a range of shanks—Weldon or cylindrical—crafted from steel or solid carbide.

Alongside the impressive stability of the tool, the HiPIMS coating on the exchangeable heads is particularly important in extending tool life. Its high wear resistance reduces tool change times and, in conjunction with the six-toothed design, boosts productivity. In addition to general mechanical engineering, typical applications include the aerospace industry, automotive production and the hydraulic industry. Users with small and medium batch sizes in particular, as well as mass producers, can reduce their inventory due to the flexibility and variety of different versions of the circular interpolation milling cutters, and benefit from specific services, such as the integration of the new circular interpolation milling cutters in the Walter GPS machining software, which is already complete. This makes it possible for users to generate the 3D data and cutting data for the new milling cutters directly for their programming.
