With the TC420 Supreme, Walter AG is launching a thread former that can be used universally and offers very special properties: A torque reduced by up to 30% makes the innovative new HSS-E-PM thread former suitable even for machines with lower power consumption.

At the same time, it allows for high cutting speeds and a better surface compared to tapping. The reason for this is a new tool geometry. The individual polygons around the outside of the tool are designed so that they are in contact with the material for less time, reducing friction and thereby power consumption of the thread forming process. Another feature is the innovative new pre-treatment and post-treatment, which results in lower torque and a longer tool life.

Walter offers two versions of the thread former: One specialist tool for abrasive steels such as C45 (with TiCN coating in grade WW60BA) and one for all other materials (with TiN coating in grade WW60AD). The tools are also available with and without lubrication grooves, and with and without internal cooling (axial/radial). The HSS-E-PM substrate is much harder than its HSS-E predecessor for improved tool life. This plus the general advantages of thread formers – such as no chip formation, no miscutting, improved surfaces and the high strength of formed thread. All these make the TC420 Supreme ideal for a wide range of applications such as use in general mechanical engineering, the energy sector or in the automotive industry for ISO P, M, K, and N materials. For medium to large batch sizes – and for universal use.
