Wilkhahn: Pioneering ecodesign

Whenever the Federal Award for Ecodesign is awarded, excellent ecodesign is also figuratively very popular. This year, the competition for outstanding ecological design, jointly organised by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, the Federal Environment Agency and the International Design Centre (IDZ), is once again being launched across Europe. We are all the more pleased that our new Yonda shell chair programme is now in the running for the coveted award.

The jury of environmental and design experts nominated the sustainable shell chair programme by neunzig°design for the Federal Ecodesign Award 2022. A total of 28 of the approximately 300 entries submitted and 137 admitted to the jury session will now enter the race for the most sustainable design. The projects and products have to hold their own in the face of strict test criteria in terms of their environmental compatibility and suitability for the future. Yonda’s nomination follows on from the success story of Wilkhahn chairs: in 2012, the 3-D office chair ON was awarded the prestigious prize.

Last but not least, eco-design means rethinking materials. Good cards for Yonda, whose seat shell is made of an innovative BioComposite: 70 % recycled polypropylene and 30 % locally harvested waste wood combine to form a strong, durable and at the same time elastic material.
