The Federal Ecodesign Award pays tribute to excellent ecodesign. This year, the competition for outstanding ecological design, jointly organized by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, the Federal Environment Agency and the International Design Center (IDZ), is again being launched throughout Europe. Consequently, Wilkhahn is all the more delighted that the Yonda shell chair range is in the running for the sought-after accolade.

The judges panel, consisting of environmental and design experts, nominated neunzig° design’s sustainable shell-structure chair range for the 2022 Federal Ecodesign Award. Some 28 of the approximately 300 entries submitted and 137 admitted to the judging panel will now enter the competition for the most sustainable design. The projects and products need to meet stringent criteria in terms of environmental friendliness and sustainability. Yonda’s nomination is a further chapter in the success story of Wilkhahn chairs. In 2012, the 3D ON office chair won the prestigious prize.

Ecodesign means rethinking materials. And the outlook for Yonda is good. Its seat shell is made out of an innovative biocomposite, 70% of which is recycled polypropylene and 30% local waste wood. These are combined to form a strong, durable and elastic material.
