Sandvik Coromant, world leader in tools and machining solutions, introduces its CoroBore® BC (Boring Combination) offering, which includes custom multi-stage tools for mass-production applications. With the solutions, different operations such as pre-finishing and chamfering can be performed with just one tool. This benefits manufacturing companies in the automotive and general engineering sectors as well as manufacturers of construction machinery.

The attractive alternative

With CoroBore BC, Sandvik Coromant offers a quick and easy alternative if standard tools do not meet specific requirements and a special tool is out of the question due to the costs and delivery time. The process is extremely fast because it uses an online program that automatically creates the tool and outputs the price and delivery information.

Reduced cycle times and faster delivery

“The productivity benefits of CoroBore BC tools are based on avoiding unnecessary tool changes and reduced cycle times,” said Jenny Nilsson, Sandvik Coromant’s Global Product Manager. “One of the many strengths of the new solution is that it can be offered much more quickly thanks to an automated design and offer process. One of our employees, together with the customer, simply goes through the necessary processes and parameters and enters everything into the program via a web-based design interface. Once this is done, the system will immediately create the tool design and the appropriate offer. “

Multi-stage boring applications

Due to the extensive CoroBore BC options, a multitude of multi-stage boring applications can be performed. In fact, for a custom tool, customers can select up to four operations (a maximum of two cutting edges per machining). The diameters range from 20 to 200 mm, the tool length can be up to 400 mm, depending on the coupling size. Available couplings are Coromant Capto®, HSK Form A and ISO 9766 and the cone couplings ISO, Mas-BT and Cat-V. The wide range of supported coupling variants and sizes usually allows direct integration into the machine interface, eliminating the need to use a separate base holder.

CoroBore BC uses the CoroBore flush-mounted holder as an indexable insert holder. Compared to fixed disc seats, this configuration allows a simple and efficient cartridge replacement. As a standard stock item, both the indexable insert and the insert holders are exchangeable at short notice.

In addition to the standard ISO indexable inserts, CoroBore BC boring tools can be equipped with CoroBore 111 indexable inserts with optimized grade selection for center and roughing applications. Overall, the Sandvik Coromant indexable insert range offers productive geometries and grades for all types of materials and drilling applications.

With CoroBore BC, manufacturing companies have the opportunity to get a tool with significantly reduced delivery time compared to custom products – and at a more attractive price.
