Mazak to hold inaugural event for European Laser Technology Centre (ETC) Yamazaki Mazak is opening a brand new headquarters for its European laser business in Milan, Italy, from 26 to 28 May.

Yamazaki Mazak was founded in Japan more than a century ago and is the gold standard in the industry when it comes to laser cutting systems. Buying a machine from the Japanese manufacturer means relying on the most innovative and advanced technology delivered by customer-focused experts.

In its long history, the company has established 10 production facilities and several sales offices worldwide, 14 of which are in Europe. The increasing importance of the European subsidiaries, as well as developments in laser cutting technology, have ultimately led to the creation of a dedicated site, the brand new European Laser Technology Centre (ETC), next to the Italian subsidiary in Cerro Maggiore, near Milan.

The new European Laser Technology Centre

The opening of the Laser ETC will take place from 26 to 28 May 2022.
The new facility features a large showroom where a selection of the company’s flagship laser cutting machines will be in operation, a clean room for maintenance work on optical components such as cutting heads, and other technological solutions related to laser cutting machines.

The showroom also includes a nitrogen generator that, along with a gas mixer, will allow Mazak engineers to develop new cutting technologies and processes. As well as a CAD/CAM corner to show and demonstrate Mazak software technology.

Customers can come to the opening event on several days to better understand the company’s expertise. The spacious floor area accommodates a full range of machines and allows training participants to gain hands-on experience.

In addition to the benefits of the new laser cutting facility, Mazak customers will benefit from the European Parts Centre in Leuven, Belgium.
The warehouse can process 20,000 parts per month, 365 days a year, and 97% of spare parts for all Mazak machines are delivered throughout Europe within 24 hours.

During the exclusive three-day opening event, customers will be able to see an extensive range of Mazak laser cutting machines under one roof. Two brand new machines will be the stars of the show: the OPTIPLEX 3015 NEO S-15 and the FG-220 with fibre technology. The OPTIPLEX 3015 NEO S-15 – a 2D fibre laser cutting machine – features innovative Beam Shaping Mode technology for improved control of beam shape and diameter.

A new MCT3 cutting head and a new MAZATROL Smooth Lx CNC control system ensure optimum performance on a wide range of materials, both in terms of speed and quality. Large front and side access doors, an adjustable control panel and easy access to the workpiece make this the ideal choice for versatile operations.

The FG-220 is Mazak’s latest fibre laser machine for cutting round, square, rectangular and open profile (I, L and H) tubes. Integrating multiple production processes into a single machine means shorter set-up times, shorter lead times, fewer operators and a smaller footprint.

Four independently rotatable chucks prevent material distortion, ensuring maximum precision even with complex contours. Overall, the FG-220 sets the standard for lean production processes. Also on display will be the OPTIPLEX 3015 NEXUS FIBER 6 kW and the OPTIPLEX 3015 FIBER III 10 kW with CST Automation.

In addition to a range of laser solutions, visitors to the new Laser ETC will also be able to see a variety of Mazak machine tools. These include models from the flagship INTEGREX range of multi-tasking machines, as well as the new VARIAXIS C-600 simultaneous 5-axis vertical machining centre and the QTE-200M entry-level turning centre.

Mr Gaetano Lo Guzzo, Director Laser Business Europe at Yamazaki Mazak, comments, “Mazak has a rich tradition of developing and delivering revolutionary laser cutting technologies and we look forward to welcoming laser customers from across Europe to our new building.” “Not only will it act as a fantastic demonstration area, but it will also play a fundamental role throughout the operational life of many of Mazak’s laser cutting machines – from application engineering and after-sales support to laser cutting head repair and maintenance.

In addition, there is a rapidly growing customer base using both Mazak laser cutting machines and Mazak machine tools. Having a state-of-the-art facility with unrivalled technical expertise in both disciplines is therefore becoming an invaluable resource for many European manufacturers.”
