Tamron Optical 30X-zoom Camera Module with a Global-Shutter CMOS Sensor

with a Global-Shutter CMOS Sensor

General camera modules employ a ‘rolling-shutter CMOS sensor’ for the imager, which tends to cause artifacts when target objects are in quick motion or when the camera moves with respect to target objects. To address this issue, Tamron employs a ‘global-shutter CMOS sensor’ in its new camera module that renders target images free of these artifacts. Tamron’s new ‘Optical 30X-zoom Full-HD camera module with a global-shutter CMOS sensor features the integration of its acclaimed optical technology with image fidelity assured by an optical 30X zoom and compatibility with full-HD resolution. The new module effectively eliminates the imaging artifact that has been experienced in traffic monitoring for fast-moving targets or in large UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) applications where the camera is mounted on a fast-moving body to track targets, and enables recording of target images in various fields of view using a 30X zoom and in high-quality Full-HD.

High Performance Realized by a Global Shutter CMOS Sensor

A ‘rolling shutter CMOS sensor’, as employed in general camera modules, captures target images by sequentially scanning from the top to the bottom scan-line; artifacts are incurred due to the sequential delay when objects move across the sensor in high speed or when the sensor moves in high speed (focal plane distortion). A ‘global shutter CMOS sensor’ enables the capture of target images without this artifact by scanning the target on all the scan-lines simultaneously. The distinguished feature to render artifact-free images, which are as natural as observed by human eyes, is best appreciated in applications such as the recognition of vehicle license-plate numbers, or the facility surveillance using a large UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle).

Structure Difference between Global and Rolling Shutter

Use of an Optical 30X High-Power Zoom Lens

The new module integrates an optical 30X high-power zoom lens with a 6.5 – 195mm focal length, offering customers the choice of a field-of-view best suited for the installation environment and application. The telephoto range is particularly useful for traffic monitoring of fast-moving vehicles, or for large UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) applications in which the camera is mounted on a fast-moving body. In these applications, a distance needs to be maintained appropriately between the camera and the target to keep the target on the monitor display, and an optical 30X high-power zoom lens with the telephoto-end focal-length of 190mm (horizontal field-of-view of 2°) integrated in the module assures effective tracking of a distant target in a right scale and size.

High Quality Camera Compatible with Full-HD Resolution

The camera module supports 1920 x 1080 60 fps Full HD high-quality digital image output signal format, an industry standard in the security market.
