Technological market leadership through research and experience

VENSYS technology is based on many years of research and development work by highly qualified engineers and technicians making up the company´s top management today. By designing and manufacturing gearless wind turbines in the megawatt range VENSYS is making a major contribution to protecting our environment and climate, resulting in wind energy plants that do not only operate with the highest possible degree of efficiency all over the world but also make do with a minimal number of wear parts.

VENSYS wind turbines are not only produced in Europe today but also by highly productive licensees in other manufacturing facilities worldwide and reliably supply electricity in more than a dozen countries around the globe.

The pioneering technology “Made in Germany” in conjunction with worldwide manufacturing and direct customer contact on all important markets are hallmarks of the innovative and proven VENSYS wind turbines. “Always at your side” – the new VENSYS motto that makes it clear where we see ourselves: close to our customers.

VENSYS wind turbines: the simple alternative

As a German pioneer of direct drive technology VENSYS has made its mark with more than 11,000 turbines of the 1.5 MW platform installed worldwide. The 2.5 MW series is catching up quickly with the new 3 MW turbine destined to play another major role in the future.

The 1.5 MW and the 2.5/3 MW platforms all show similarities as well as big differences in their designs. A common feature is the placement of the complete power electronics including the frequency converter and the transformer in the tower base. They also share the use of a toothed belt  drive for the blade pitch system. All permanent magnet generators have been developed in the company headquarters in Neunkirchen/Germany. To protect the sensitive coils and magnets against damage the generators have been designed to make sure they are completely encapsulated, thus preventing environmental influences from harming them.

A big difference between the platforms is the rotor bearing. The 1.5 MW series features a classical fixed bearing as well as two main bearings for the generator rotor/the hub. With the 2.5 MW series VENSYS makes use of a single rotor bearing with a simple design resulting in a much lower tower head mass.

Another difference is the cooling system. The 1.5 MW range features a passive cooling system that offers the advantage of being less complicated by dispensing with movable parts. The 2.5 and 3 MW turbines with a higher rated power boast an active air cooling system with electric fans and an air-to-air heat exchanger.

The 1.5 MW turbine has been in serial production since 2007. Meanwhile a further two, larger rotor diameters of 82 and 87 meters have been added. The prototype of the 2.5 MW platform, a VENSYS 100 (with a rotor diameter of 100 meters) was erected in Wagenfeld/Germany in 2010 with new rotor diameters of 109 and 112 meters having been added since. These turbines are also available with a 140 meter reinforced concrete hybrid tower for IEC classes IIA and IIIA for locations with poor wind conditions.

3 MW from 2015

The prototype of the 3 MW VENSYS 120, IEC IIA, will be erected in early 2015 on a 140 meter hybrid tower. An IEC IIA sister model of the VENSYS 112 is also under development.

We welcome you to our exhibition stand 116 in hall A1 at WindEnergy Hamburg 2014

We at VENSYS have left our mark with our famous trade fair architecture. In keeping with the VENSYS slogan “Simply innovative” our design, set-up and use of media impress the visitor with curved shapes and well thought-out sustainability. Service and information points, an open lounge area as well as conference rooms offering privacy and a coffee bar provide a relaxed atmosphere for meetings.

Many guests are already looking forward to our popular party at the VENSYS stand on the first day of the exhibition which once again will be offering entertaining and culinary highlights.
