After successful cold commissioning and shipment by sea, the 100th EnviThan gas upgrading plant by EnviTec Biogasis now fully operational in Denmark. “The functional test at our production site in Saerbeck, attended by our customer Lars Nielsen from Lykkeslund Farm, paved the way for final commissioning,” says Maurice Markerink, Managing Director of EnviTec Plant Construction.
The new facility reaches an impressive capacity of 1,510 Nm³/h—a major milestone not just for EnviTec but for renewable gas production in Europe. Lars Nielsen is no stranger to EnviTec’s expertise: the first gas upgrading unit was installed at his farm in 2017 with a starting capacity of 396 Nm³/h. Over two upgrade phases, capacity increased to 468 Nm³/h and then 510 Nm³/h.
“The new expansion allows a gradual, flexible increase in production,” Markerink explains. This flexibility helps operators adapt to market fluctuations, while optimizing how gas from liquid manure and organic waste is marketed.
By enabling on-demand production, the upgraded system significantly boosts resource efficiency. “We can now save resources while cutting costs—a true win-win for both the environment and the bottom line,” says Lars Nielsen.
A major innovation of the project is that the entire 1,000 Nm³/h EnviThan system is housed in a single 45-foot container. Only the gas compressor is installed separately in a premium soundproof cabin. “This makes the plant even more compact and cost-efficient than previous two-container designs with half the capacity,” adds Markerink.
Biomethane plays a key role in Denmark’s energy transition. According to Biogas Danmark, around 37% of the country’s gas consumption is already covered by biomethane. EnviTec Biogas has been active in the Danish market for over eight years. With 13 completed projects and a total biomethane output of 9,910 Nm³/h, the company continues to lead the way in sustainable energy solutions across Europe.
