Project Rogfast, a 27 km subsea tunnel running 392 meters below sea level in Norway, is set to become the longest and deepest road tunnel in the world. It will significantly reduce travel time between Stavanger, Haugesund, and Bergen, enhancing regional connectivity.
Skanska relies on Hexagon’s measurement technologies — including Leica RTC360, MS60 MultiStation, AP20 AutoPole, and TS60 total station — to achieve an astonishing alignment precision of 5 cm. Tunneling starts at both ends and must meet with exact accuracy to avoid costly rework.
Hexagon’s real-time data capture and validation solutions enable Skanska to execute tasks right the first time. This approach minimizes rework, emissions, and overall project duration, resulting in safer and more sustainable operations.
With a 30-year history of collaboration, Hexagon and Skanska continue to pioneer digital innovation in infrastructure. Trond Valleur, Skanska’s VP, emphasizes that Hexagon’s accuracy provides their teams with the confidence to work efficiently under demanding conditions.
“For a project like this, even a millimetre of misalignment can trigger cascading risks,” notes a Hexagon representative. Their precision metrology tools are reshaping what’s achievable in complex engineering projects.
