EnviTec Italia reports good market prospects thanks to new biomethane regulation

EnviTec Biogas S.r.I. Italy has just been successfully certified with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 in the areas of environment, safety and occupational health. “These recognitions not only certify our compliance with high quality and safety standards, but are also an important competitive and tax advantage,” reports Gianluca Visconti, Service Manager at the EnviTec S.r.I. site in Verona.

In contrast to the ISO 9001 certification, which was already successfully completed in 2021, participation in the audit conducted by APAVE Certification is voluntary. For over a year, two coordinators, an external consultant and the responsible persons from the warehouse, biological and technical service departments involved prepared all processes for certification on site and scrutinised all safety and occupational health measures. “The constant optimisation of all processes is an important element of the daily work of our 20-member team anyway,” Visconti continues.

The award is both praise and incentive, as the certificate, which is valid for three years, once again proves that EnviTec is a reliable partner with high quality and safety standards – in Germany, Italy and worldwide, says Martin Brinkmann, Managing Director of EnviTec Services. The laboratory in Italy, which has been established for eight years now, is a fixed service component for the seven Italian own plants as well as the 45 biogas plants built by EnviTec in Italy. “We carry out an average of 1,500 analyses here every year, which means we are working at full capacity,” explains Brinkmann.

For the coming years, a possible construction of about 200 new biogas plants is expected in Italy. After Germany and China, Italy is the third largest biogas producer in the world. With the new biomethane regulation that has just come into force, the market prospects for the biogas all-rounder are increasing. “In the conversion to biomethane gas upgrading plants alone, we currently see a potential for 500 to 600 plants for the industry,” says Visconti. With the long-awaited regulation, the agricultural biogas sector in particular can benefit and make an important contribution to the Italian energy system. “With the provision of subsidies for investments and incentive tariffs for the net production of biomethane of over €1.7 billion, it is estimated that a production capacity of around 2 billion cubic metres per year will be supported by 2024, ten times the current production,” according to the latest press release on the new decree. The first competitive procedure for access to funding will be launched already in the first quarter of this year.
