igus: Maintenance-free bearing points in wind and weather

Solar steam system from Ecotherm with iglidur® plain bearings

The Ecotherm company was looking for maintenance-free plain bearings for a precision bearing that also functions reliably in permanent UV radiation, heat, cold and adverse weather conditions. With iglidur® J UV plain bearings, the ideal solution was found for the approximately 1,000 bearing points per plant. The material was specially developed for use in UV radiation and is therefore durable even in sunlight.

How does the solar system work?

Ecotherm has adapted the technology of concentrated solar power to the requirements of industrial steam applications. The sun is focused on a collecting pipe by a series of movable mirrors. Water flowing through the manifold is converted into steam by the sun’s rays. The steam is then fed into an existing steam system at a specific temperature and pressure. The generation of steam by a steam boiler that runs on fossil fuels can be reduced accordingly. This not only saves costs, but also CO2. Solar steam systems from Ecotherm can be installed on roofs of industrial production facilities.
