Mikrotron discusses benefits of high-speed cameras for production monitoring in the pharmaceutical industry

For good reasons, the quality standards in the pharmaceutical industry are extremely high. Even the rarest error events in pharmaceutical production would have a critical effect on the properties of active ingredients or their carriers. The same applies to the packaging processes of pharmaceuticals. In both cases, high-speed cameras can improve production monitoring and make a decisive contribution to quality assurance and process optimization.

The process sequences in many production plants are so fast that they can no longer be recognized or even checked with the naked eye. Especially in the case of sporadically occurring errors, the causes can be manifold. Different effects can be optimally recognized and analyzed by slow motion videos of the process sequences, which were recorded with high frame rate and resolution. High-speed cameras are used for localization and analysis of process errors. Often cameras with internal memory that can record short high-speed video sequences of a few seconds at the right time.

The high-speed cameras have resolutions of up to 4 megapixels and can record up to 560 images per second at this high resolution. By selecting smaller image sections, considerably higher frame rates of several tens of thousands of frames per second are possible. Depending on the recording time required, cameras with internal memory can record sequences of up to 13 seconds. For applications with long recording times, where process errors occur less frequently, the use of a long-term recording system with high-speed video recordings of up to 7 hours is recommended.
