Digitalization is transforming industrial ventilation and exhaust air systems, and airflow monitoring is no exception. With increasing demands for efficiency, transparency, and remote accessibility, modern sensors must deliver more than simple switching signals. TURCK addresses these requirements with its new FCS-K20 and FCS-M18 air flow sensors featuring IO-Link communication.

These sensors are designed for precise monitoring of air flows and temperatures in demanding industrial environments, offering a future-ready solution for digitalized automation concepts.

Digital Airflow Monitoring with IO-Link

The FCS air flow sensors use IO-Link to digitally monitor air flow and temperature in applications such as fans, filters, and air ducts. Unlike conventional analog sensors, IO-Link enables direct digital communication with the control system, ensuring consistent signal quality and simplified integration.

Parameterization is handled quickly and reliably via IO-Link, allowing users to configure switching points, temperature thresholds, and operating parameters without manual intervention at the device. This significantly reduces commissioning time and minimizes the risk of configuration errors.

Remote Parameterization and Maintenance Advantages

One of the key benefits of IO-Link is the ability to adjust sensor settings remotely, even after installation. This is especially valuable in ventilation ducts or exhaust air systems that are difficult to access.

Because the sensors do not require mechanical adjustment elements, there is no risk of leaks caused by manual setting mechanisms. This contributes to system reliability and helps maintain consistent airflow conditions over long operating periods.

Comprehensive Process and Diagnostic Data

In addition to standard switching signals for air flow and temperature, the FCS sensors provide extensive diagnostic and operating data via IO-Link. This includes temperature values and status information that can be used for predictive maintenance and IIoT applications.

The sensors support the Smart Sensor Profile standard, making it easier to integrate them into standardized automation and monitoring concepts. This level of transparency enables operators to detect deviations early and optimize ventilation performance.

Clear Status Indication and Flexible Connectivity

Each sensor features an integrated six-color LED that clearly displays operating and status information directly on the device. This visual feedback simplifies troubleshooting during installation and operation.

To support a wide range of installation scenarios, the sensors are available with either a fixed cable or a pigtail version with M12 connector. This flexibility allows seamless integration into existing cabling concepts and control architectures.

Typical Industrial Applications

The FCS air flow sensors are ideally suited for monitoring air flows in ventilation ducts, exhaust air systems, and industrial fans. They are also used to monitor filter conditions, helping operators identify clogging or reduced airflow at an early stage.

Additional applications include underground car park ventilation and tunnel ventilation systems, where reliable airflow monitoring is critical for safety and regulatory compliance.

Product Variants for Different Mounting Requirements

The product family includes two mechanical variants to cover different installation needs. The FCS-K20 is designed for plug-in mounting, while the FCS-M18 is intended for screw mounting.

Both variants are available with a two-meter cable or a 0.2-meter pigtail with M12 connector, ensuring maximum flexibility for machine builders and system integrators.
