igus has announced the construction of a new 378 m² training factory at its Cologne‑Porz headquarters, aimed at doubling its training capacity for professions such as mechatronics technicians, tool mechanics and electronics technicians. The investment is intended to make the company independent of the external skilled labour market by 2027.
The new training factory is equipped with modern turning and milling machines, five injection‑moulding machines and fully‑equipped electrical workstations. Trainees will handle genuine customer orders — including tool repairs and small production runs — while also learning AI and robotics under the aegis of igus’ In‑house Automation and Low Cost Automation units.
igus is aiming to meet its full skilled‑labour demand internally from 2027 onwards. The startup year of the training factory coincided with a 42 % growth in trainee intake, with 25 new trainees starting in September 2025. The total cohort in the industrial‑technical field has reached 59 young professionals.
Beyond initial vocational training, igus collaborates with the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) to offer adult‑education programs. These initiatives enable employees without formal vocational qualifications to earn recognised IHK certifications in areas such as injection‑moulding, machining, extrusion, logistics and assembly.
