DC charging stations are the first choice when electric vehicles need to be recharged within a very short time. If charging stations are installed in geographical locations with higher ambient temperatures, the electronics must be able to withstand these temperatures and function without failure. The RN 5897/320 insulation monitor from DOLD’s VARIMETER IMD family is used especially for DC charging stations according to the IEC/EN 61851-23 standard and is suitable for temperatures from -40 to +70 °C.

It provides monitoring during the charging process from the charging station to the vehicle. Characteristic features of the device are the extended temperature range and the short response delay of ≤ 1s. In combination with the RL 5898 and RP 5898 ballasts, the insulation monitor is suitable for monitoring networks with nominal voltages up to DC 500 V or DC 1000 V. The integrated voltage measurement ensures a reliable determination of the insulation resistance in the IT network. The insulation monitor also has a self-test function. This is carried out automatically after power-on and after every full hour of operation.

In addition to monitoring DC charging stations, the insulation monitor RN 5897/320 can also be used for monitoring unearthed AC, DC, AC/DC networks, UPS systems, networks with frequency converters or DC drives, battery networks and mobile power generators.
