Lenze: Panel Controller as all-in-one solution

Powerful hardware platform from Lenze for visualisation and control applications
Lenze took not one but three devices from the new Panel Controller p500 family to Hannover Messe 2012. They are based on the tried-and-tested architecture of the Controller 3200 C and are also equipped with a touch-sensitive TFT display (7, 10.4 and 15 inch available). The Panel Controller p500 series is maintenance free and especially robust, and is ideally suited as a machine-oriented visualisation and control platform. Combined with the advanced Lenze software for control, motion and visualisation and a coordinated product portfolio, users can take the p500 as the basis for realising automation systems which are perfect for deployment in both centralised and decentralised architectures.

The high computing power of the Panel Controller p500 is provided by a 1.6 GHz Intel® Atom™ processor. One gigabyte of internal main memory, two gigabytes of Flash memory to replace the conventional hard disk, and an SD card slot for application data make the p500 a powerful all-in-one solution for demanding visualisation applications that can be equipped with a soft PLC if required. The fanless devices in protection class IP65 (front), which were designed for machine-oriented installation, are especially compact and robust in the face of shocks and vibrations. Moreover, they are virtually maintenance free since a SuperCap capacitor is used instead of the standard buffer battery in the internal clock. Another special feature of the Panel Controller p500 is a maintenance-free internal UPS which automatically stores retain data in the event of a power cut. It can even be enlarged with an external UPS if need be.

The basic features of the Panel Controller are two 100 MBit Ethernet interfaces with integrated switch, an EtherCAT interface (master) and two USB connections. Moreover, a slot is provided which can be used to add communication cards (e.g. CAN, PROFIBUS Slave) to the devices. The modular construction of the new devices makes it easy and quick to realise customer-specific facings.
