The “Rittal Automation Systems” business unit is adding new manual tools to expand the product range for control and switchgear manufacturing, which it introduced in the autumn of 2015. The enlarged range includes screwdrivers, cutters and stripping tools, pressing and crimping pliers, as well as hole punches for sheet steel and hydraulic punches. As a full-range supplier for control and switchgear manufacturing, and supplying everything from manual tools to fully automated machines, Rittal can now support its customers in all stages of the production process.

Rittal Automation Systems presented a wide range of tools and machines for control and switchgear manufacturing at the Hanover Fair. The portfolio ranges from simple screwdrivers, pliers and other manual tools to semi-automatic machines for cable assembly and automated machining centres for enclosures and panels. Products also include handling systems for ergonomic work.

Thanks to the newly added manual tools, Rittal can now meet all the needs of processes that need to be performed manually. It covers the mechanical structures of enclosures and mounting plates, to wiring and to cut-outs for cable glands made on site using manual hydraulic punches and sheet drills.

Better ergonomics in the workshop

Even if control and switchgear manufacturing does rely very heavily on automated solutions, many manual operations are still needed. In particular, the handling of enclosure parts, mounting plates or climate control systems, which can be heavy, is physically demanding for staff. Rittal Automation Systems provides ergonomic handling systems to help perform these tasks safely. For example, panels can be easily and safely transported in the workshop with the LT 1000 storage and transport trolley. The multi-functional MH 500 lifting tool simplifies the lifting of heavy parts such as populated and wired mounting plates or climate control units.

Fully automated solutions

The mechanical processing of the enclosure or panels such as mounting plates can also be performed in the workshop. Rittal provides “Perforex” machining centres for milling and laser processing for this. Holes, cut-outs and threads can be made in enclosures, enclosure parts or mounting plates with high precision and speed.

The same applies to cutting top-hat rails and cable ducts to length. Control and switchgear manufacturers can employ the fully automated Secarex AC 15 cutting centre or use a manual cutter – both can be obtained from Rittal Automation Systems. The new Rittal business unit offers semiautomatic automatic cutting, stripping and crimping machines for cable assembly. The range of supply also includes consumables like wire end ferrules – loose or taped. This way, cables can be assembled quickly and with high quality when enclosures need to be wired.

By extending the product range through the addition of new manual tools, Rittal is expanding the Rittal Automation Systems business unit to a full range supplier for control and switchgear manufacturing. Through this business unit, Rittal is supporting control and switchgear manufacturers along the entire process chain – from engineering right up to the workshop and production.
