By commissioning the high-bay warehouse as from November and the automated warehouse for small parts in March 2015, the system provider for housing and enclosure technology aims to halve the future logistical throughput time of his products. The aim is to fulfil the Rittal delivery promise “Faster, better, everywhere” in conjunction with around 90 ware-house locations worldwide.

The new Global Distribution Center is equipped with a high-bay warehouse with room for 21,500 pallets, as well as an automated small parts storage facility with 25,000 spaces for containers. Investing over €40m, Rittal has created state-of-the-art logistics infrastructures for 20,000 large enclosures, as well as for 50,000 enclosure and climate control components. “By halving our logistic lead times, we are reaching a next level of speed,” explained Dr. Guido Stannek, President Supply Chain Managment at Rittal.

Thanks to the increased availability of its series products and the faster delivery, the system provider is aiming for a sustainable increase in customer satisfaction. “Our clients appreciate the immediate availability at our 90 storage locations worldwide. They keep telling us that it is a key argument for purchasing,” Dr. Stannek continued.

The promise of a 24/48-hour delivery service is based on catalogue products and the local storage portfolio. “Almost every region in Europe that it relevant for sales can be accessed from our warehouses within 24 hours,” Dr. Stannek explained. This concept is to be expanded to other regions over the next few years. The prerequisite is the availability of the Rittal products at around 90 warehouse locations worldwide and customer accessibil-ity within a minimum of 24 and a maximum of 48 hours from the warehouse ramp.

Rittal is affirming its commitment to the continued expansion of its international business in Asia with a €10m investment in a new delivery centre in Incheon Songdo, South Korea. The new delivery centre was completed in late October. It has an area of 10,000 m² with space for over for 4,000 pallets.

In the USA, Rittal is also starting new trends in logistics. Customers there are guaranteed a delivery time of no more than 48 hours for standard products. The parts produced in Urbana (Ohio) are delivered to three other major logistics centres in Atlanta (Georgia), Sparks (Nevada) and Houston (Texas). Every metropolitan area in the United States lies within a radius of just 400 miles from these locations. Soon, Rittal will also be opening its first combined distribution and logistics competence centre in Houston.
