Safely sealed! New interior separation for E4Q energy chain reduces assembly time

For safe cable routing in unsupported and long travels, igus has developed the E4Q energy chain. The bionically inspired design of the series saves weight, while an opening bar with locking tabs reduces the installation time of the cable carrier by 40 percent. To further facilitate filling with cables, igus is now launching a new interior separation for the E4Q. Universal separators can be simply placed on the opening crossbars, and shelves can be inserted from the left or right, optionally in the inner or outer radius. A mechanism in the dividers automatically locks the chain when closing.

Simple and easy to install, these were the goals that the igus developers set themselves with the E4Q energy chain. The result is an energy supply system for unsupported and long travels, which saves material and thus 10 percent weight thanks to a naturalistic design. At the same time, it is more robust than its predecessor series E4.1. The special feature of the energy chain is that it can be opened and closed completely without tools thanks to a special opening bar concept. This allows the user to save 40 percent of the assembly time. A concept that convinced users and the jury of the German Design Awards 2021. In order to be able to fill the E4Q with cables even faster, igus GmbH has now developed a new flexible interior partitioning system in cooperation with its customers. The system consists of universal separators and lockable intermediate shelves. The cable-protecting separators have a grid, which serves for the insertion of the shelves. To assemble the interior partitioning, the dividers are first placed on the opening dividers. The shelves can then be inserted into the desired level from both sides.

Double-sealed with slider and opening bar

An integrated slide allows the shelves to be positively locked in place so that they remain securely in place even under high acceleration. “Even if the fitter forgets to secure the shelf, this is not a problem,” explains Jörg Ottersbach, Head of Business Unit e-chains at igus. “With the insertion of the opening bar, the locking mechanism is automatically activated. A foolproof and safe concept for all cases.” If the user wants to change the inner division of the energy chain, he can simply open the opening bar in the inner radius or in the outer radius, depending on accessibility, unlock the intermediate bottom via the lateral slider and pull it out. The new interior partitioning is offered by igus for its four E4Q sizes in different widths.

Calculate guaranteed service life online and have it certified

The E4Q energy chain is available in the igus online store and can be configured with cables and the internal separation in the e-chain expert. igus promises a warranty of up to 36 months on the complete energy supply system. The customer can generate the certificate online using the service life calculator. If the energy chain is no longer in use due to the service life of the machine and system, igus takes it back and guarantees recycling according to type. In return, the user receives a credit based on the net weight.
