For SIGMATEK, provider of complete automation systems for industrial applications, the practice-based education of future engineers is a matter close to the heart. In the photovoltaics lab in the electrical engineering department at the HTL Salzburg, students can now work with the most modern automation technology.

During the laboratory sessions, future technologists put their newly acquired theoretical knowledge into practice. With the SIGMATEK training sets, the new workstations in the photovoltaics (PV) lab are now state of the art technology. A training set consists of three automation units: A standard & safety control, an operating panel as the human-machine interface and drive technology – combined on the integrated software platform LASAL. Industry clients also like using this starter kit as an introduction into the SIGMATEK automation world.

Using the training sets, the students can simulate practical applications in the lab. The new high-tech lab equipment comes in convenient cases. “This makes us flexible. When the workstation is used for a different task, the equipment can be flexibly stored and is then quickly set up again and ready to go” according to Gotthard Fränzl, graduate educator. The training sets are primarily used for laboratory exercises in CAP (Computer-aided Project Development) in the 3rd and 4th years. “These always then become final projects and diploma theses. SIGMATEK automation technology uses object-oriented programming and that is additional know-how for our students,” says Gotthard Fränzl with satisfaction.

SIGMATEK, internationally successful automation experts based in Lamprechtshausen, has been a partner of the HTL Salzburg for over 20 years and has already equipped many laboratories. “By sponsoring the lab automation, we create the basis for teaching in pace with the times. Everyone involved profits from practice-based education with current technology – students, teachers and the economy. Qualified professionals are a deciding competitive factor in the industry”, says Marianne Kusejko, Chief Executive of Personnel and Finance at SIGMATEK.
