snapchain 2.0: Small, compact and cost-effective energy management

It doesn’t always have to be expensive. A motto that applies not only in the supermarket, but also when buying energy chains. Because often the simplest products are not only the most cost-effective, but also the technically best. igus has now developed snapchain 2.0 especially for low-load and flat cable packages. The cable carrier consists of only one side band on which the cables can be fixed with the help of cable ties. Thanks to 100 recyclate, it is also a sustainable solution.

In cash register and drawer systems, office furniture or even gaming machines, space for a secure cable carrier is a real scarce commodity. To provide a remedy in such cases, igus developed the snapchain 20 years ago. The chain consists of only one side band on which the cables are fastened and guided in a defined bending radius. An energy supply system for the tightest installation spaces, which has proven itself thousands of times worldwide. Now igus has further developed the snapchain. “We would like to give our customers even more flexibility in the assembly of the chain. That’s why we have changed the design so that the cables can now be fixed very easily with standard cable ties,” explains Kira Weller, Product Manager e-chains at igus. To do this, the cable tie is simply inserted into the side part, guided around the cable package and closed. Another special feature of the snapchain 2.0 is its material, as it is made of the recycled material igumid CG as standard.

From old to new

The igumid CG material comes 100 percent from recycled energy chains. As part of the chainge programme, igus has been taking back discarded energy chains since 2019, irrespective of the manufacturer. The material is then sorted by type, cleaned and processed to new product quality. The material is then turned into igumid CG. The material has already been successfully used in the cradle-chain E2.1 energy chain series since spring 2022. In numerous test series in the in-house 3,800 square metre laboratory at igus in Cologne, it was able to successfully convince in terms of tensile force and breaking moment. The e-chains made of recycled material make a valuable contribution to the conservation of resources and thus advance the circular economy. According to the Environment Product Declaration, this sustainable raw material cycle also saves 28 percent CO2. “The snapchain 2.0 is a cost-effective all-round package. With it, our customers receive a quick-to-assemble, reliable and sustainable product. It is the second chain series that we produce as standard from our recycled material. At the end of its life, it can also be 100 percent recycled,” Kira Weller sums up.
