Compact turned: igus further expands its 16mm flat slewing ring bearing series

The space-saving PRT-04 slewing ring bearings are now available in additional sizes with internal, external gear teeth and detent function.

They are flat, light and literally have the knack: the PRT-04 slewing ring bearings from igus. Specially developed for use in movements in the tightest of spaces, igus offers an entire PRT-04 modular system. The lubricant-free slewing ring bearing series comprises eight sizes. In addition to three external toothings and optional angle limitation, the slewing ring bearings are now also available with an internal toothing, as well as a detent function. Thus, the designer can find his suitable product even for applications with an extremely compact installation space.

Rotary table bearings from igus rotate assembly units, operating panels or even cycle tables even at high speeds. So that they can make their rotations maintenance-free, the motion plastics specialist from Cologne relies on radially and axially acting gliding elements between the inner and outer rings of the bearing. The sliders made of the high-performance plastic iglidur J ensure that friction and wear are minimized, completely without lubrication. Introduced as a novelty in 2019, igus is now launching an entire modular system for its PRT-04 flat slewing ring bearing series. The corrosion-resistant slewing rings have been specially developed for use in compact installation spaces with loads of up to 48,000 N. The series scores points with the fact that it can be used in a wide range of applications. Compared to the PRT-01, the series requires only half the space, is 60 percent lighter and costs 20 percent less. Arguments that convince customers worldwide: “With the PRT-04 slewing ring bearings, we have already been able to implement several applications in automation technology, in the packaging industry or even in furniture technology,” explains Stefan Loockmann-Rittich, head of the iglidur business unit at igus GmbH. “For even greater design freedom for designers, we have now further expanded the series.”

Compact drive with internal toothing and new detent function

The flat and lightweight slewing rings are available in a total of eight sizes from 20 to 300 millimeters. In addition to accessories such as drive journals, variable mounting plates and clamping levers, igus offers three external toothing options and also an internal toothing option for very limited installation spaces, such as in driverless transport systems. The slewing ring bearings can be driven with drive belts or also with gears, which igus manufactures in injection molding from highly wear-resistant tribo-polymers. Especially for applications such as assembly tables where work is repetitive, igus has also developed a rotary table bearing with a detent function. The detent points are either fixed at 90 degrees each or can be individually defined on customer request. For special applications, igus supplies a slewing ring bearing version with conductive gliding elements to prevent ESD-compliant electrical charging. As with all igus products, the service life of the slewing ring bearings can also be calculated online for the respective application.
