In January 2025, INTERSPORT Austria and TGW Logistics finalized the acceptance of a state-of-the-art automated intralogistics system at INTERSPORT’s headquarters in Wels, Austria.
This new fulfillment center consolidates multiple smaller logistics sites into a centralized hub, significantly enhancing performance, capacity, and process flexibility.
The automation ensures swift and reliable deliveries, meeting the growing demands of INTERSPORT’s extensive customer base.

INTERSPORT Austria’s Growing Reach

INTERSPORT Austria, a leading sports retailer, serves approximately 1.8 million customers and oversees markets in neighboring countries, including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.
With a workforce of 3,600 employees, the company plays a vital economic role in Austria and its partner nations.

A Long-Term Automation Strategy

The collaboration between INTERSPORT and TGW Logistics marks the beginning of a joint journey towards automation, aiming to accommodate continuous growth in customer numbers and order volumes through enhanced intralogistics processes.

Smart Automation with High-Density Storage and Robotics

TGW has implemented a four-aisle shuttle system featuring triple-deep storage, maximizing storage density and optimizing space utilization.
Orders are picked at six PickCenter One workstations, while TGW’s robotics automatically erect and lid shipping cartons before transporting them to the outbound area.
The TGW Warehouse Management System (WMS) plans, controls, and monitors all processes and is integrated with INTERSPORT’s ERP system.

Strong Partnership and Software Expertise

“During the sales design phase, TGW provided both professional collaboration of the various teams and many innovative suggestions for optimizing our current logistics processes,” said Günther Junkowitsch, Head of Logistics at INTERSPORT Austria and overall project manager.

Johann Steinkellner, CEO of TGW Central Europe, emphasized the importance of software expertise in the project:
“We are very pleased that INTERSPORT Austria trusts TGW’s intralogistics know-how and experience. The decisive criterion in the project is our software expertise. The TGW WMS will replace INTERSPORT’s existing system—both for the automated and manual system areas.”

A Milestone for Scalable Logistics

This project underscores TGW’s commitment to delivering comprehensive, integrated solutions that drive efficiency and support the growth ambitions of its partners.
